On each of Florida’s first three goals, the Lightning had the puck in the defensive zone and failed to clear it. Soon after, the puck was in the Lightning net.

TAMPA -- Like many kids growing up in Canada, Jon Cooper idolized Bob Cole, the longtime voice of “Hockey Night in Canada.” But Cooper said it was more than that. He said Cole, who died Wednesday at the age of 90, is a big reason he’s coaching the Tampa Bay Lightning.

ELMONT, N.Y. -- The Carolina Hurricanes pushed the New York Islanders to the brink of elimination with a 3-2 win in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference First Round at UBS Arena on Thursday. Andrei Svechnikov had two assists, and Frederik Andersen made 29 saves for the Hurricanes, the No. 2 seed from the Metropolitan Division.
